Impermanence

Water doesn’t react, it flows

Even a rock changes over time

Eroded by the elements

Permanence of any kind is a myth

Mirror Image

Do you see yourself only when you look in a mirror?  Or do you also see yourself when you  look at everything you encounter?  Just as a mirror reflects a physical representation of how you view yourself, the world reflects your true nature.  Your immediate surroundings represent, in physical form, things that you like.  You surround yourself with things that make you happy and things that you think you need to live the life that you think you want.

Your surroundings can be neat or cluttered, also representing the state of your being.  You can take actions to change your surroundings by creating or destroying.  Your actions reflect your mind state and your reaction to those actions may represent something else entirely.  There can be a conflict between the action and the emotion related to that action.  That must surely represent that you are out of harmony with yourself (Karma).  At this point you have to step back and feel the emotion, but not judge it.  With awareness, you can change your actions.

Karmic Fuel

Driving home I realize that I need gas.  I have to go to work in the morning and what I have left in the tank will not get me there, it will barely get me home.  It has been a long day and the last thing that I want to do is divert out of my well tread path and into a crowded gas station to breathe noxious fumes.   I would rather go home, put my feet up, relax for a bit.  However, I know that if I do not get gas now, I am shifting that need to in the morning.  Doing this will throw off my morning routine causing me to need to get up earlier or rush to get the fuel I need to make it to work.  On an oversimplified, micro-scale, this is how I think karma works.

Inner Engineering Day 2

We started today at 8:30am.  There were a number of people late because of parking at the convention center.  The whole place is setup very odd, but I found a backdoor entrance when leaving today.  The morning started with a talk by Sadhguru.  He discussed responsibility vs. action.  If someone was dying in the back of the room would you be responsible for them?  There was a little word play in that everyone has a response to them. He questioned “is response limited or unlimited?”  Unlimited.  (More on this in a bit).  Then he questioned “Is action limited or unlimited?”  Limited.  There are an infinite number of ways that you could respond, but only a limited set of actions that you could respond with.  He said that everything is a response to something else.  This is similar to Indra’s net although he did not draw that analogy.

During the talk a few people got up to go to the bathroom.  He made a point to call them out and literally hold up the whole class while they went.  He said that he didn’t want anyone to miss a single bolt of inner engineering.  He sat there silent when one person when and then agreed to answer a question when another went.  He had called this guy out earlier for talking notes saying that he didn’t want anyone to write a scripture.  “If it could be written down should he (Sadhguru) write it?”  (I think that he has written or someone has ghost written a few books for him.)  The guy that had been called out wanted to say that he was not writing a scripture and that he just wanted to jot down some notes to help him remember.  That was still no good.  No writing.  Just be with Sadhguru.

Make Money Blogging?

It seems like I keep running into more and more of these “make money blogging” sites.  Is there anything to them or is it just a pyramid scheme?  It seems that they make money by getting you to buy kits on making money by blogging.  At some point that will dry up and the people on the bottom will be holding the bag.  The ones in the middle may do OK, and the originators make out like bandits.  There is no actual exchange of goods it is really just a redistribution of wealth.  It is a shame that schemes like this exist and prey on others like this.

Karma

''Fish Karma logo

Typically when I hear the word karma images of a birth and death cycle come to mind.  Actions, speech and thought performed in this life have direct implications on the next one.  While this larger cycle may be true, a much tighter karmic cycle is happening constantly.  The way that we interact with the world has direct and sometimes immediate impact on us.  This may be a future debt that we know is coming due or it may be an instant feeling we get as soon as the harm is inflicted.

The tight cycle still represents the birth and death of our selves.  The birth and death of our ego.  How we treat others,  including our environment, has direct implication on what the ego thinks it is.  Action kills the ego and it is then reborn with whatever karmic debt was created in the last cycle.  It is best not to judge the ego since its life is so short.
